Zanfish Spondon
Welcome to Zanfish Spondon, a charming establishment located at 40 Nottingham Road, Derby. As your food reviewer for Pops Cafe, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to one of the local favorites for fish and chips and more. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and hearty meals, Zanfish Spondon promises a culinary adventure that pays homage to traditional British take-out.
A Taste of Tradition:
- Fish and Chips: The cornerstone of any British eatery, Zanfish Spondon serves regular chip mixes and a variety of fish options, including cod and haddock, freshly prepared to order. However, a mix of reviews suggests an inconsistency in execution—some patrons praise the authentic batter while others express disappointment in sogginess and undercooked offerings.
- Meal Deals: Ideal for families and gatherings, the Zanfish Family Meal Deal stands out at £40.95, providing enough food to satisfy even the hungriest of crowds with two large fish, a generous serving of chips, sides, and a bottle of Coke.
- Burgers and Kebabs: Step beyond the traditional fare with a selection of juicy burgers and kebabs, like the 3 Meat Special served with pitta bread—offering delightful options for a broader audience.
- Kids Menu: For younger diners, the Fish Bite set serves up fun and flavor with a side of chips, drink, and a treat, ensuring that even the littlest foodies are catered to.
While the menu brims with potential, Zanfish Spondon has encountered its share of struggles. Recent customer feedback highlights a wide range of experiences—from those who revel in their delightful halloumi burgers and gluten-free options to others disappointed by service and meal quality. It's clear this establishment has the capacity to deliver remarkable dishes, yet achieving consistency seems to be an area ripe for improvement.
Final Thoughts:
With its prime location and diverse menu, Zanfish Spondon offers a compelling dining option for both locals and visitors alike. If you’re seeking a comforting plate of fish and chips or a casual family meal, it’s worth a visit. However, be prepared for an experience that may vary on occasion—after all, in the world of casual dining, nothing is ever set in stone. Here’s to hoping Zanfish Spondon finds its rhythm and serves up more consistently delightful dining experiences in the future!

Never Again( See images)I came back home with Fish chips and gravy.Upon opening the box I knew this would be the worst Fish and chips i'm about to eat! And I wasn't wrong. From looking at it... I noticed the fish was just wrong.Under battered not crispy at all, just oily mushy thin layer of batter, with alot of skin showing through like ALOT.The white meat it's self was tasteless this would indicate to me it's been over cooked! and under battered. The chips, I proberly had around five or so descent potato filled chips, the rest well see images....... bottom of the barrel some even tasted a bit cardboard like, flat and dry no potato clearly the oil needed a change.I am more then disapointed i'm fuming they could serve this..I normally go to the Allenton branch no issues I won't be going back to the Spondon branch!See images for your own minds. The British public deserve better considering it is a national Dish!God forbid a staycationer comes over and that is their first experiance! Also to note customer service no smiles no thank you. Nothing.

I would give zero stars if possible. Food was ordered via Uber eats and delivered stone cold I appreciate this is partially outside of their control (not fully) but the missing item was completely their fault. I rang regarding this item and was met by disgusting customer service, whoever it was that I spoke to clearly wasn't taught how to communicate with people. I'll take your money and once it's in my account the customer can get lost is the feelings I'm left with. The cost of a takeaway (especially zan fish) is very high at the minute, this was meant to be a treat which it definitely wasn't in the end. I ended up having to seek alternative food for my year old daughter who was upset the food she wanted didn't come. No resolution was offered other that I could travel to get the missing item whilst the rest of my food continued to get even colder. No apology was received, just shouted at and told "I'm going, I have food to cook". You lost a customer today Zan fish, hopefully my review also makes people think twice themselves. The pictures show the soggy fish and the lettuce which had started to turn brown by the time I got to attempting to eat it.

Stopped off for dinner after visiting Locko Park, instead of a McDonald's. Easy parking and access to store, which looked clean and tidy. Good range of menu options on offer, and they do have gluten free days as well. Prices seemed high for a chippy, certainly higher than my local, while the quality was a firm "ok". Nothing wrong, but decidedly average. In hindsight, if I'd gone for a / pounder meal at McDonalds, I'd have been just as satisfied but saved myself a few quid.On the other hand, the food was hot, fresh and I ate it all, so it did the job. If you're passing and fancy fish and chips there are certainly a lot of places far worse.
